Having a website is a great way to promote the work of your organisation. Many organisations are put off having a website due to the perceived high costs that could be involved... but it need not be that expensive.

Community IT will work with you to create an affordable website for your organisation.

We can help you get up and running with a 'Starter Website', complete with your own 'Domain Name' and Email addresses, for as little as £300 !

What is involved in having your own website?

To have your own website you will need to choose a 'domain name'...
(e.g. www.yourorgainsation.co.uk/.org.uk/.org/.com/.biz/.info/etc...)

Space will then be purchased to 'host' your website on dedicated 'server' that will be on around the clock.

After designing your website it can then be 'uploaded' to this 'server', allowing anyone to view your website from any computer with Internet access, at any time, anywhere in the world.

Community IT can work with you to design your website and put it on to the Internet for you, for everyone else to see.

We will take care of all the technical details so as you don't need to to worry about such things as registering your domain name or choosing a server ~ as part of our website design service, we will do all of this for you.

Once you have own 'domain name' you can then choose to have any number of Email addresses specific to your organisation e.g. anyone@yourorganisation.co.uk  or any-department@yourorganisation.co.uk etc...

How do you go about getting started ?

Beforehand you may want to give some thoughts as to what type of content you would like on your website...

How long will it take ?

It needn't take too long at all to get your website up and running... Obviously this depends on how much information you want to include, how many pages there will be and on how you want your website to appear.

To register your domain and get space on the server will take only 24 hours to complete, so technically you could have a website up and running little more than this - even if it was just a 'holding page' (i.e. a web page that may contain your organisations contact details, logo, etc., along with a message saying that your new website will be along shortly).

Community IT will work with you to add the content to your site and to help design your preferred style and feel of website. It would be possible to have the website 'live' on the Internet as the work is in progress. This would be in a private area of the web, so as not to be seen publicly until completed, but would allow you to see your website 'on-line' as it progresses - giving you the opportunity to comment on it's appearance and suggest any modifications as it develops...

How much will it cost ?

The overall cost of your website will again depend on how much information you want to include, how many pages there will be and on how you want your website to appear.

There are many companies offering website design... The vast majority of these companies however are commercial enterprises, aiming to produce corporate websites for clients on a larger budget. Too few of these companies are interested in the meeting the needs of smaller, or not-for-profit organisations, who want a simple web presence without the high costs. Many professional web designers are also very focused on providing a very visually appealing and graphically oriented websites - while this is all very good for those who can afford it, such websites are beyond the budgets of most Community Groups, Voluntary Organisations and Small Businesses

Community IT aim to provide an range of IT services to address the needs of Community Groups, Voluntary Organisations and Small Businesses in Northern Ireland, who may be on a small budget... So as far as websites go, we do not concentrate on providing websites that are orientated towards a high graphic front-end. Although this can be achieved, such websites are usually beyond the budgets of the client groups we are working with.

But, please bear in mind that low-cost websites does not mean low-quality ones! - We aim to provide satisfaction to our clients at all times.

- We can show you how to manage your own website

Community IT will be happy to look after the maintenance of your website for you. Whenever you have new content you would like added to your website, or if you would like to remove/update existing information, it is just a case of getting in touch with us, giving us the details of what you would liked changed, and we will take care of the relevant changes to your website (you may wish to email us any text/pictures you would like added and we can publish these to your site very quickly).

Alternatively, we could spend some time showing you how to manage the content of your own site and train you in how to edit existing web pages or add new ones. This may be the preferred option if you might wish to change the content on your site on a very regular basis.
